Iryna Herasymova (born in 1939) belongs to Kyiv artistic generation of the 1970s. She graduated from Kyiv Art Institute, attended the studio of K. Trokhymenko and V. Kostetskyi. Herasymova calls her style the «unreal realism». Her manner is, indeed, a particular combination of mysticism and irony. «I could not comprehend the «unreal realism» that is at the core of my art. For some reasons, I aimed to do things «better» - in a more realistic manner…, but I always ended up with certain «deviations», which I labeled as disadvantages. However, as the time went by, I understood that it was the way I expressed my attitude to life and creativity. I stopped looking at others. And it felt so much better».
The technique of these works is paradoxical and the works themselves are quite original, notwithstanding the apparent (family) similarity between certain tools used by Iryna Herasymova and her husband Vladyslav Mamsikov.
During the last years, Ms Herasymova paints predominantly decorative symbolic landscapes. These paintings are widely used for interior decoratinon. They have been permanently in high demand at the auctions
