SHATS BORIS – was born in 1922 in Kiev – died in 2002. Ukrainian graphic artist. He received his art education at the art studio in the Kyiv Palace of Pioneers under the guidance of I. F. Khvorostetsky. After graduating from secondary school, he worked at the A. Dovzhenko Film Studio. In 1954 he graduated from the graphic faculty of the Kharkov Art Institute. Professor Joseph Abramovich Deitz was his mentor. Boris Shatz’s diploma work – the illustrations for B. Gorbatov’s novel “The Unconquered” – were exhibited at the Third all-Soviet-Union Exhibition of diploma works by students of art universities of the USSR. He worked in the field of easel and book graphics, watercolors and posters. In the late 1950s, the artist created a series of watercolours and lithographs based on T.G. Shevchenko’s works and life. Some of these works replenished the exposition of the T.G. Shevchenko Museum in Kyiv. Since 1957 B.S.Shatz participated in republican, all-Soviet-Union and foreign art exhibitions. Member of the Union of the Artists of the USSR since 1960. The artist’s works are presented in Kharkiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa art museums, in Vinnytsia, Volynsk, Zhytomyr, Kirovograd, Rivne, Kherson, Cherkassk local history museums.
